Hey... Can't say I'm real new here as I had this site in a bookmark from about 2 years ago and just recently (by redirect) visited again.
I see plenty of Weckl talk here and certainly have my share of stories but wondered if anyone else has the (perhaps first ever) copy of the Electric Band recorded in Spain on VHS?
I recorded it off Bravo channel - must have been around 1988 and featured Dave quite a bit (Rumble etc.) Pattitucci was on fire and it was also fun to watch Scott Henderson.
From what I remember Dave was using Simmons pads along with his Yams!
If this is a "rare" video I might be able to dig it out of my stash (if I can find it) and make a clip. If it's readily available I won't bother. Let me know.
Also, Steve. Do you run into Russ Miller out there in LA? We were good friends here in South Florida and I know he has done well since leaving! He helped me build my kit (from Keller shells) which now sits in my garage!

That video IS rare and I would totally be into seeing some old school Rumble action!
I haven't run into your friend, sorry.

I'll look for the video today. I'm sure being recorded in the 80's off non-digital cable TV the quality isn't the best. I hope it's not packed down in a dusty box all cracked by now.
Not to mention I watched it about 200 times back then!
It must have been the E-bands first live gig ever because after "Rumble" Chick and Dave "high-five" each other as in "we pulled it off".
The video also featured some dancers and showed Dave lounging in some hip 1980's attire.

Come to think of it I may have other 1980's drum video including Omar Hakim on that old late night Michelob music show w/David Sanborn and possibly a recording when the E-band was on Arsenio Hall - anyone remember that?
Also, I'm surprised you haven't seen Russ Miller out there. He's a pretty cool guy and is always willing to talk drums. I believe he played on the Nelly Furtado recording that won the Grammy. He has a website that bears his name - I won't post the link.
Anyway, after a 3-year hiatus it feels good to talk about drums again. Any other Jojo Mayer fans out there?
I have some Vinnie stories from past PASIC shows where I was a vendor, may post them at a later date.

Ok, here's a small sample from "Got A Match".
Preferably, you should "Save Target As" and download the clip to your HD rather than watch it online.

Please don't ask for a copy of this video.
The tape was recorded analog/VHS in the 1980's. I may drop it to digital and grab some other clips at another time.
Enjoy.

Heh, thanks.
I could probably drop the entire tune (best of the tape) down on digital and make a clip around 60mb... if I dump Henderson's guitar solo I could get it down around 40mb
I dunno... the trio is so tight that Henderson sounded a bit weak.
Also on the tape is Buddy Rich sitting in on a Frank Sinatra concert. I believe this was on Showtime in 1985 since he died in 1987. He does a solo and about has a cornary. This video is probably available at blockbuster.
I've seen Jojo Mayer live twice.
His grooves with The Screaming Headless Torsos are infectious. And, anyone who can play 180bps Drum 'n Bass grooves live is ok in my book.
Vinnie "quips" coming soon....
